Michael Hill Boss Blues!

Hi Groovies, and welcome to my latest blog. As you may recall I am in the process of producing a charity cd in support of he Basil Skyers Myeloma Foundation. www.basilskyersfoundation.org The cd will feature varied original music from a variety of artists who have generously donated tracks for the cd. One of the tracks 'The Blues Is On Your Side' was specially written for the cd by 'NYC Boss Blues Man' Michael Hill.

For this blog I have decided to do a profile of Michael Hill whom I first met in 2011 in London (see below).

You can have a preview of The Blues is On Your Side, Its not the finished article but you get to hear the great vocals and guitar of 'NYC Blues Boss' Michael Hill. The track will eventually have full instrumentation and be properly recorded for the cd.

Click here to hear a preview of the track www.soundcloud.com/thevaults-1

You can preview some other work in progress tracks on my vaults-1 soundcloud site which will appear on the cd later this year. I will put other 'work in progress' charity cd tracks on my vaults-1 soundcloud as the tracks become available. Stay tuned! The finished cd tracks will be professionally recorded, have full instrumentation, and artwork. Start saving you pennies, I'am coming at ya!

Michael Hill Profile

I first met Michael in 2011 at the Sunday jam at 'Aint Nothin But' in London Kingly street. I was waiting my turn outside when  heard some incredible guitar and vocals. I ran inside to see Michael doing his thing and was spell bound! To my horror I was called up to play with him and was as nervous as could be! I need not have worried, he welcomed me to the stage and generously let me have lots of solos to find my feet. Afterwards we got chatting and I discoved he was on holiday from NYC. As luck would have it I met him again the following wednesday at he 'Alley Cat' Jam in Denmark street and got called to jam with him again!!! This time I was more relaxed and gave a better account of myself! We got chatting afterwards and struck up a really good rapport. I knew then that he would become a good friend, mentor, and teacher. Later that year I went to NYC and he hooked me up to play with him and some of his buddies at BB's Club. Definately one of my career highlighs! When I came back to the UK I had the idea for a chariy cd and Michael was the first person I asked to donate a track. Despite of his busy touring and recording schedule he said yes, I'am in!

In 2011 Michael Hill was inducted into the NYC Blues Hall of Fame. Michael has played with BB King, Robert Cray, Little Richard, Buddy Guy, & Hubert Sumlin, and other blues greats. Michael's latest album 'Goddesses & Gold Redux' is released on JSP records. His latest single 'U.S. Blues Again' is available on itunes

Not only is Michael an incredible guitarist and vocalist but he is a writer too! His latest work is a wonderful book he wrote for his son to help them both cope with the separation his touring brings. The book is enitled

'Big Top & The Blues'

Finally ...

You may recall from my last blog that I attended the Coach & Horse jam for the first time just before christmas and was invited to do a guest spot with the house band. Well I jammed there a couple weeks ago and I now I have a date for my guest spot! I am to guest on Wednesday 5th March and it will be a lot of fun! A really great Jam where they film all the performances so you can see how you did! They also take some great pics! Here is one of yours truly from a couple weeks ago. There are more great pics from the jam here-

The jam is well run by Stevie king and his crew of helpers including photpgrapher, PA, and door. Not only is it well run, its very friendly, you get to do three songs which is unkown at any other jam I know!

Just a reminder that my next gig is at Olivers in Greenwich next Friday 7th February. Always love playing there with its intimate cool jazz vibe, and enthusiastic crowd. We are joined on sax by new guy Tmag who has done the last couple gigs with with us, a great player and all round nice guy! Last time we played there we brought the house down so make sure you catch us, it gonna be a blast! Now, I know its February but I feel I have to say this ....Happy new year and all the best for 2014!

Cheers

Clyde
